Another great place to exercise on the ASU
campus is the Whiteman Tennis Center. In 1976 John Whiteman provided Arizona
State University with 300 thousand dollars to build the Whiteman Tennis Center.
The tennis center holds eight asphalt courts and seating for over one thousand
people in its 6,640 square feet. Other amenities and equipment the ASU tennis
center provides are women and men's locker room, coaches offices and a training room.

National tournaments such as the Thunerbirds Collegiate Invitational and other junior tournaments are usually held in this tennis center and it is also home to the men and women's varsity tennis team. In addition to being a home to the tennis teams it is also the official ASU tennis courts where students and faculty and even people from the community can subscribe to use its amenities. Most students don't know about this facility that is available to them and many don't take advantage of it, but they should because tennis is one of the most intense sports. Tennis is considered a high endurance sport because it requires stamina, speed, and strength. According to a study that The British Journal of Sports Medicine made, tennis is proven to 'increase endurance, lower body fat percentage, improve bone health, and reduce the risk of heart attacks' (Pluim). People who regularly participate in tennis have great health and leaner bodies because of the combines exercises they use when playing. Even though many students and faculty members don't know how to play, the center provides single and group tennis lessons for a small fee. For those who do know how to play or want to figure it out on their own there are sign in sheets in the front office where people can sign up and reserve a court to play on.
